Fons Et Origo – My Product Design Internship at Cowrywise

Product Design Internship at Cowrywise

One of my resolutions for the new year was to become a more active Cowrywise ambassador and to secure a position as a product design Intern.

Considering how many applications I submitted, the Cowrywise Ambassador Program application was just another typical student application for me. However, something about the Cowrywise Ambassadors community kept catching my attention and I felt compelled to participate. The enthusiasm I observed coming from the numerous ambassadors at my school was different and inspiring. They maintained their friendly and intimate bond even when they weren’t on Slack. This motivated me to do my best to network with other ambassadors across the nation. I had no idea that being active would lead to the first of many things happening in my life.

The Process. ๐Ÿ’™

Getting into Cowrywise as a product design intern proved to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It’s interesting considering that I almost skipped applying for the role the moment I saw the application form simply because I believed it would clash with the beginning of my academic year. However, as the saying goes, always follow your thoughts. After my interview with Timileyin Odediran and Adimchi Oka, I received my offer letter from Cowrywise to start my internship as a product design intern! I was super happy because I had ticked it off my list of goals. ๐Ÿ˜

Let us dive in!

Looking back at the last four weeks, it has been nothing but spectacular. My first day at work started with an onboarding process. I met with Timileyin, who showed me around and introduced me to the team I would work with for the next 4 weeks. Then I met my co-intern Victoria Francis. Together, we met with the different teams at Cowrywise and finally, I was introduced to my team – the design team.

The internship

The following week, I had access to my laptop and joined the product design slack channel. Adimchi was my supervisor and I must say that the bar has been raised significantly. The greatest person to work with is Adimchi since he genuinely takes his time to clarify every single crucial aspect. He showed me how the design team manages projects and the Cowrywise design system on Figma.

Working with Adimchi was simple; he assigned me duties which included designing Cowrywise Circle card components, redesigning the dashboard, and building a design flow for the Duo update. I also had the opportunity to join the management team for ambassadors, where I actively participated in initiatives for the ambassador community. From every single person, I was able to learn, unlearn, and relearn.

Michael Oladele, the growth marketer at Cowrywise, who is in charge of the ambassadors’ program, constantly puts me on my toes and makes me realize how much potential I have to grow into a better person. Unaware of it, Feyi, the product design lead at Cowrywise and Timileyin inspire me to be original and unique. The experience went well beyond gaining technical know-how and skills; it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will be useful in all areas of my personal development.

The first of many ๐Ÿ†

The first of many things for me started with my internship with the Cowrywise ambassador.  It was my first internship, my first job, my first paycheck, and my first time connecting and collaborating with a team. To be quite honest, Cowrywise has truly raised the bar. The culture there is unlike anything I have ever experienced. As for the quality of people I had the opportunity to connect with, all I can say is whoosh! ๐Ÿš€

I can now specifically say that I see design in a different way. The significance and the value of working with others and gaining practical work experience is amazing!

THANK YOU COWRYWISE!
