Money Chronicles showcases the honest money experiences of everyday people who use Cowrywise. Today, I speak with Solomon Omatseye Ovie, a Cybersecurity student of University of East Anglia who started using Cowrywise in 2019 . He talks about how his finances have changed since then, his love for football triggers and how he saved for his Masters abroad with Cowrywise. Dive in below to read our chat! ⬇️

Hi! 👋🏾 What’s your name and what do you do?

My name is Solomon Omatseye Ovie. I prefer to be called Ovie, I’m studying Cybersecurity at University of East Anglia.

It’s nice to meet you, Ovie. We want to know your Cowrywise story. How did you find out about us?

My cowrywise story started in 2018. I wanted to update my Bank app on Google play store and I came across Cowrywise. The name and color caught my attention so I downloaded the app. In March that year when I got paid my profit sharing, I was thinking of a savings app where I could drop my money and get good returns. Then I remembered I had Cowrywise and I decided to lock away my money away 3 years…4 years actually and ever since then, I’ve been enjoying Cowrywise. 💙

Oh wow…4 years is a long time. What prompted you to lock your funds for that long? 🤔

I was trying to get myself the best saving plan and I click on ‘lock funds’. And that was it. 😂 Although I wasn’t happy with my choice initially, in the long run I am glad I chose that option. Locking my funds for that long helped me learn discipline and take charge of my finances.

Oh great great. We also have a 2019 tweet. Looks like our relationship has been ongoing for a long time.

Yeah. 😂
It has been a good run having Cowrywise as my saving partner

Let’s talk about your tweet on Football Triggers.

Football is my best sport. 😌
Last year, I wanted to start a new saving plan and so I logged in to my Cowrywise app I was searching on the best plan to choose and I saw the Football Triggers. I read about it on the blog and knew it was for me. In no time, I picked my team – Real Madrid. Now whenever Real Madrid scores, I get debited. It’s really a good way to save more money.

Cool cool. What’s the highest you’ve been debited with Football Triggers?🤔

Highest debit was against Liverpool.

Is that the Feb 21 match?

Yes. Real Madrid 5, Liverpool 2.

Oh that was one spectacular match. 🎉 What has changed with your finances ever since you started using Cowrywise? 😌

Cowrywise has helped me to manage my finances. I now have savings and investment plans. This would not have been possible without Cowrywise. I actually used Cowrywise to save towards my MSc Studies abroad 😂 and that has helped me a lot, especially when I first moved. It’s still serving me till date. 💪🏽

This is so good to hear. 🎉 Can you tell us more about that?

So actually the plan was to save towards my future wedding but changed. Then I decided to adjust my plans and I started saving towards my studies instead. Thanks to that singular decision, I was able to pay for my visa fee and flight with zero stress.

We’re really happy to hear that. 💙What is your best Cowrywise feature and why?

Mutual Funds and that’s because of the returns I get.

What’s the most absurd thing you’ve spent money on lately?

I just bought 4 pairs of Travis Scott’s shoes, I say make spoil myself small. 😂

Advice for anyone thinking of opening a Cowrywise account?

Why stalling? Just take a leap of faith and watch your money grow. 🤩

Thank you, Ovie. It was nice talking to you
